People of England in 1600 (lower, upper, and middle classes) supported Charles II when he was restored to throne
because he was tolerant of those who condemned father to death
also tolerant in religious matters

Roundheads/Whig Party/Middle class later opposed him
they wanted to give right of succession to James, Duke of Monmouth, Charles II's illegitimate son
and Charles II not agree

Cavaliers/Tory Party supported him
wanted James, Charles II's brother, to be next in line
and Charles II agreed

Parliament supported Charles at first
restored him to the throne
later started to oppose him and his ideas
their ideas on religion were different
